About The Discovery Beach Project
Finding Inspiration in a Grain of Sand
The Discovery Beach Project is simply the documenting of a small concentrated part of the landscape on the Essex Coast. Measuring roughly 50m x 100m this section of beach is not particularly unique or remarkable, and that is why it has been chosen.

The Story
We live in a world where we are being bombarded with information and images from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to bed. Living 100% in our minds, always looking for the next "big thing" the "next great adventure", or struggling with the anxiety of what we have not got, we flit from one subject to another, jumping from one idea or thought to the next. As a result, we are finding it increasingly difficult to find intimacy with anything. We are losing touch with our physical selves and the world around us. During the process of creating an idea for an art project, I thought about wanting to create stunning, breathtaking images. Then whilst walking on the beach, I began to feel that creating an amazing image and then another one, putting pressure on myself to constantly outdo myself and others simply aligned to what the material world was telling us....bigger, better, faster. So I came up with the idea of smaller, simpler, slower and this project was born. 12 months, once a week for an hour, photographing a small subsection of our landscape. Witnessing the environment, how it changes, the objects, people and wildlife that frequent it. I have thoughts on how this concept could evolve, so please follow the blogs as this project develops.
